Be a tree
Yesterday, as I sat in meditation preparing for the New Moon sound journey that evening - Into the Earth - I asked "how can I be of service in my life right now?" The response, "Be a tree." I knew our guides for the journey would be the trees, but the response still surprised me. As I inquired to better understand, I was shown the wisdom of the trees. They root deep into the earth, they grow tall and upright, reaching their branches towards the sky. And most importantly, they breathe.
As our world that is breaking open in more ways than we can keep up with, what can we do? Be a tree. Set our roots deep into the earth so we are grounded and present in our life and what is going on around us. When we are grounded we can respond rather than react to the chaos and upheaval in whatever ways are most appropriate. We can be tall and upright, walking through the world with impeccability and integrity. We can reach our branches towards the heavens, drawing down insights, inspiration, and courage to dream a better world into being. And as we breathe deeply, we create space for others to breathe. We become the calm in the storm instead of being swept up in it. We provide opportunities for rest and nurturing in our physical spaces and through our daily interactions.
On this New Moon, I invite you to join me and consider what it means in your life to be a tree. Where can you root deeper? What nourishment can you draw up through those roots to better support you? How can you stand tall and be centered and strong in your truth and your light? What are the visions and dreams that you can send your branches out to bring down from the heavens and manifest in your life and community? And most importantly, remember to breathe. Whether you realize it or not, your breath, your presence, is what brings life to this world. There are so many campaigns to save the planet by planting trees, and last night the trees showed me that it's also important for us to plant ourselves in our lives. So if you're at a loss as to what to do, it's simple, be a tree.
